Kirù was founded in Amsterdam by Pui-Yuen Wong and Tricja Cotterrill, born from a shared desire to create handbags with lasting value.

Pieces to be carried for years, not just seasons.

Before founding Kirù, Pui gained over twelve years of experience in the world of handbags and craftsmanship. Tricja spent sixteen years working as a creative director and stylist, shaping the brand’s refined aesthetic and attention to detail.

How we work

Our bags are handcrafted in a small atelier in China. For Pui, whose roots are there, it felt like the natural place to begin. We work closely with the artisans who make our bags, maintaining a personal relationship throughout the entire process. Every piece is handmade with care, patience, and an uncompromising attention to quality.

Where our ideas come from

Sculpture, architecture, and contemporary art.

Every Kirù bag is named after a woman: a friend, an artist, someone whose work has stayed with us.

The name

The name Kirù was gifted to us by Tricja's dear friend, Nikè van de Waal, after whom our Nikè Clip Bag is named.

In Japanese, Kirù means “to wear,” particularly from the shoulders down. We were drawn to the word because of our admiration for Japanese design — its restraint, precision, and the thoughtful care given to every object.
